Update from Kate Holmes - Carving Architectural Stone

I hope this finds you well and that you’ve enjoyed your summer.

Since we met at C&G I have gone and returned from Italy, which I absolutely loved! Despite not being one for the heat, I had the most amazing time.

Thought I’d share a little update on where my third-year piece is heading thanks to the support from The Honourable Society of the Knights of the Round Table.

What you can see in the foreground is a half-life-size 3D resin print of my model (my partner, cheap/free labour!) in the background is the development of a life-size clay maquette that I’ll be casting in plaster to then use to carve from. This has taken some serious logistics and planning, but it is going pretty much going to plan. I’m hoping to have the clay complete by the end of the first week in October. Then I’m onto casting it in plaster so I can easily use a point machine when carved into the stone.

With school fast approaching I can’t tell you how much the grant has enabled this rather ambitious project, without it it would have been a non-starter!

Thanks

Kate
