PILGRIMAGE TO WINCHESTER 9- 10 June 2023

The history of the Honourable Society of Knights of the Round Table is both varied and fascinating and as well as its often notable membership and guests places of Arthurian significance have featured strongly in its 300 year existence.

Accordingly, ‘Pilgrimages’ were made to many of them over the years. As an example, in 1964, 1965 and 1967 Knights made pilgrimages to Glastonbury and Cadbury.

However, 2023 reveals an important ‘Pilgrimage’ anniversary. On 9 June 1923 a number of Knights travelled to the City of Winchester where they were entertained, at a grand banquet, by the Mayor of the City and presented with a miniature of the 18’ diameter Arthurian Round Table which has hung in Winchester’s 13th century Great Hall for the last 800 years.

It therefore seemed appropriate to honour this important anniversary and Knight Patrick Windows made arrangements to have a visit and conducted tour of the Great Hall, to include the magnificent and historic Round Table, on Friday 9 June 2023; followed by a Reception with the Mayor of Winchester in her official residence, the 18th. Century Abbey House.
